Scott Thompson, Rector

Holy Cross called Scott Thompson to lead the congregation as Rector in late 2007. Scott was previously rector of New Life Episcopal Church in Mosinee, Wisconsin. He is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. His first love was music and he had a desire to play the drums as a professional musician in a rock band. He became focused on full-time ministry in his mid-teens. Scott received his BA in Biblical Studies from Grace School of Theology in 1986, and a master of theology from the Dallas Theological Seminary in 1991. He received a certificate in Anglican studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in 1999. 

Scott and his family live in the Sugar Land area. He enjoys spending time with his family, singing, playing the guitar and drums, reading, running, weightlifting, and riding his motorcycle. His passion is the local church and seeing lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.


Diane Kurtz, Communications

Diane Kurtz is responsible for all internal and external communications for Holy Cross Church.  She was most recently Holy Cross' Office Manager for several years. Diane has more than 25 years' experience in office administration, marketing, corporate communications, and public relations in the corporate world, but now happily devotes her efforts to getting the message out about all that Holy Cross Church is doing, who we are, and how YOU can be a part of a warm and friendly church family.

Diane has been a member at Holy Cross since 2001 and has been active in a variety of ministries, including Marketing and Communications, Missions Team Co-Leader, Social Outreach, Children's Sunday School teacher, Women's Ministry, Parish Clerk, and served a three year term as a Vestry member. She loves being involved and staying busy, and especially loves spending time traveling and scuba diving with her husband. She and her husband live in Sugar Land. Diane studied Business Technology from 1974-1978 at the University of Houston.


Jessica Nelson, Director, Holy Cross Kids Preschool

Jessica Nelson was selected as Director of Holy Cross Kids Preschool in August 2016.  Jessica previously served as assistant to the director for three years prior to assuming the leadership of the school. Both of Jessica's children attended and graduated from the Preschool in years past.

Jessica and her family have been active members of Holy Cross for several years.  In addition to her work with the Prechool, Jessica has taken the lead role in organization of the Silent Auction for Pumpkin Patch and assisted in planning and organizing the Annual SoulSisters Women's Ministry Retreats. 

Jessica brings to the position an in-depth knowledge and experience to the existing operations and also a strong background in child development. Jessica, her husband and two children live in Sugar Land.


Denise McKee, Invite Welcome Connect Leader


Denise McKee was selected to lead the Invite Welcome Connect Ministry at Holy Cross in November 2016.  She is a long-time active member of Holy Cross and has a huge passion and enthusiasm for Holy Cross.  Denise leads and coordinates our Welcomer and Greeter teams to welcome our guests, and to connect newcomers to other ministries at Holy Cross.  Denise has been active in many ministries throughout the years at Holy Cross, including serving as Director of Hospitality, participation in local and international mission trips,social outreach activities, Altar Guild, Children's Sunday School, Vestry Member, and interim Youth Leader.  Denise lives in Sugar Land with her husband and three children.


Steve Ettling, Director of Music and Worship

Steve Ettling joined Holy Cross in April 2017. Steve is a graduate of the Musicians Institute (Hollywood, California) and is not only a seasoned worship leader, but an accomplished instrumentalist.

Steve is passionate about what he does and he knows why he does it; to glorify God and invite his people to worship God in Spirit and truth.
