Psalm 103:21: Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,

you his servants who do his will.

Social Outreach at Holy Cross

What We Do, Why We Do It, and How To Get Involved

  • What we doThe goal of the Social Outreach Ministry is to improve the living conditions of those in need in our community, our country and throughout the world.  Feeding the hungry, clothing those without adequate clothes, building homes for others, and sharing Christmas gifts to bring joy to underprivileged or neglected children are some of the tangible ways for each of us to love one another.

  • Why we do itWe believe that reaching out to our community and the world creates a better place to live for those less fortunate, while enhancing our experience of God. Jesus Christ taught that through opportunities to give, we grow and benefit greatly as we serve others.

  • Getting InvolvedHoly Cross has a Social Outreach Ministry Team that plans and spearheads a number of outreach projects each year.  The team heartily welcomes new members and new ideas on how to best help those in need. If you'd like to get involved, please contact Scott McKee at or Andrew Muddimer at

Many of the outreach projects ask the entire congregation to donate needed items or time to help others.  Outreach is a ministry in which all church members can participate by responding to the call for needed items.

Our Community Outreach Ministry

The Social Outreach Ministry leads the congregation in opportunities to provide for those less fortunate with food, clothing, shelter, gifts, and other items. Our Social Outreach efforts benefit the following organizations:

Youth with a Mission (YWAM)

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.  Holy Cross partners with the local chapter of YWAM in its Street Church Ministry.  Once monthly, volunteers from Holy Cross travel to Houston to set up tables, chairs, and provide snacks for the many who attend the Wednesday evening Street Church Service in the Montrose area.   If you'd like more information, contact Denise McKee at

Lord of the Streets Ministry

A team of Holy Cross adults and youth volunteer every ten weeks to serve breakfast to about 250 homeless men and women at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Houston as part of the Lord of the Streets Episcopal outreach ministry.  This event is held in a secured and organized setting.  Please contact Damian Hebert at if you are interested in volunteering.

Free The Captives

Free the Captives is a faith-based anti-human trafficking non-profit organization that fights the exploitation and trafficking of Houston’s youth.  Holy Cross offers support to Free the Captives through participation in fundraisers, providing and catering food and meals at FTC events, and through generous financial contributions of our membership.

The Voice of the Martyrs

The Voice of the Martyrs is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to serve persecuted Christians. The US office was founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who himself spent fourteen years in Communist prison in Romania for his faith in Christ. The US organization today provides practical and spiritual assistance to persecuted Christians in 68 countries. Holy Cross Church has committed to providing financial support to VOM and actively prays for persecuted Christians everywhere.

Baby Bottle Boomerang in Support of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Fort Bend

Beginning on Mother's Day each year and continuing until Father's Day, members and friends are asked to take home a baby bottle from Holy Cross, fill it with a donation to the Pregnancy Resource Center, and return it to the church for distribution.

Food-4-Kids Summer Food Drive

During the summer months, some Fort Bend children do not have access to free school breakfast and lunch programs. Because of this, the East Fort Bend Human Needs Food Pantry has a great need for "kid-friendly" foods that require little or no preparation.

Shared Dreams Partners in Education

To help children and teens start the school year off right, Holy Cross supports Fort Bend ISD's Shared Dreams Clothing Program. The purpose of Shared Dreams is to provide adequate clothing and toiletries for FBISD students whose need has been determined by school nurses. One third of the district's students are defined as economically disadvantaged. Holy Cross fills bags with clothing and toiletries that are delivered to Fort Bend ISD for these students in need.

Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child

Millions of boys and girls around the globe live in difficult circumstances and are in need of hope. "The Power of a Simple Gift", sponsored by Samaritan's Purse and directed by Frank Graham, son of Billy Graham, shares the Good News of God's love with hurting children through the simplest of gifts - shoe boxes.  Shoe boxes are filled with school supplies, small toys and personal care items, helping to introduce children to Jesus Christ. These shoe boxes are among those sent to children in poverty in over 100 countries.

For 2019, Holy Cross is doing Operation Christmas Child year-round! Each month, we are collecting designated focus items.  Later in the year, we will have packing parties to put all of the items collected throughout the year into the boxes to be ready for the collection date this year -- November 18 - 25, 2019

Christmas "Giving Tree"

Christmas is a time of wonderful traditions, and one of our favorites at Holy Cross is the "giving" Christmas tree. Our giving focuses on abused and/or neglected children of Fort Bend County who currently are under the care of Children's Protective Services (CPS). Gifts from our "Giving Tree" are taken to the CPS Rainbow Room, an all-volunteer, charitable organization dedicated to helping Fort Bend infants, children and teens in crisis.
